Anger Management

A few days ago, during supper, my friend, SB, mentioned about his working life. He was being taken for granted in work. As he is the only store assistant in the lan shop apart from his boss, he has to take care of every little things.

The lan shop fails to capture the costumers heart as its charges for the use of its computers are ridiculously high. SB puts in extra effort to be friendly with the costumers so that they will enjoy the environment. Having passion in the cyber world, he will always try to think of new ideas and games that will attract costumers to the shop. His boss, however, does not agree to console games nor spending money to invest in popular games, making the choices of the games in the shop very limited.

Recently business has been bad. This was due to the examination period around the corner. SB was always questioned as to why there were so little customers. As the days pass, his boss became more demanding about the poor business. He went to the extend where he always pick on Swift for the little mistakes that he made. Things like calling the boss to inform about the sales when he was told to send a message on the mobile phone.

That night during the supper, SB was reprimanded for forgetting to write down how many canned drinks were sold. The boss demanded an explanation, claiming that he would deduct his salary for any mistake that he makes in the future.

I spent the whole night trying to calm down SB's anger, telling him that under the employment law in Singapore, the boss can only make the employee compensate for the money difference in accounting, but not deduct the salary. I helped SB replying the many messages that the boss sent to his mobile phone, making the whole situation less tensed.

After one whole night of "friendly" debating with the boss, the next day, the boss only reprimanded him for the minor negligence.

Personally, I feel that the boss wanted to make SB resign, having lost so much money due to the poor sales. SB would have ask to leave too, if he does not have a bond with the company. I told SB that he should never be the one initiating to quit the job. Otherwise, he will have to pay for the bond.

I know that if I'm at SB's position, little horns will appear on my head. I will try ways and means to make the boss sack me, so that the boss will be the one compensating instead. And on top of that, I'll make sure that there will be no more costumers left once I'm out of there.

Yes, I'm a meany with offended.

That boss sounds like a tool badly in need of an attitude adjustment.

I hope your friend finds a better job.

I last heard that the boss intends to make his working hours shorter and deduct his pay accordingly.

i think my frd is happy with this arrangement. seems like he has more time for himself, to do other projects and spending more time with his galfriend.
