Rainbow Connection

When i first started to step into the entertainment biz, I was unsure about how I well I can adapt to the life. It was considered something adventurous especially since I have no connection to this industry to begin with.

Over these period of time, I grew and learnt a lot of things that I would never have been able to, if I had not been here. The glitz and the glam is all fake. The hard work and the tears are real. But, it is also through this industry that I meet many interesting people and friends. They are: inspired, talented, hardworking, fun, depressed, stylish, queer, extremes (almost everyone have a bit of all these). So different from the people I had mixed with before I was in this industry.

Wynne and his galfriend, Naomi

This is Wynne whom I have known during my days in the Singapore Armed Forces, Music and Drama Company. He was there for the beginning 2 years in my 3 years stay in MDC. I only knew him as one of the musicians who performed at the back of the stage. It was only after I had left MDC, we started contacted each other and hang out.

It began with small group pubbings, and soon I know all the wonderful friends whom he hanged out with. Most of them are either musicians or singers themselves. During that period of time, we will hang out in pubs till the wee hours, drinking, laughing, and having fun in each other's company. Since I was the only dancer in the group, I will usually meet up with the group after my work in the dance clubs at night.

As everyone performed in different clubs on different days, we made it a point to head down to which ever club that one of the gang was performing. From Monday to Saturday nights, we did the same routine for many many months.

Slowly, I learnt that apart from being a very talented keyboard player, he is gifted in his vocals as well. One can never imagine that someone with a deep voice as his, will be able to sing like an angel on stage, drunk or sober. He could be drunk, managing 5 keyboards while singing, and still sound wonderful.

The most favourite song that everyone likes to hear him sing is 'Rainbow Connection.' Using his voice, he is able to sing the 1st part of the song sounding like 'Kermit the Frog', then end it with his own voice. It sounded as though there are 2 identities singing that 1 number. It was beautiful. It always touched my heart. I remembered once when another singer was asked to join him on the stage doing this number, they added 2 more characters into the song, 'Miss Piggy' and 'Count, the Dracula'. It left such a great impression to everyone who had heard that version. Apart from the heavenly feeling, it brought back the childhood memories of 'Sesame Street' and 'Muppets'.

The last time I met Wynne was 2 weeks ago. I was invited to his mini farewell gathering. He had decided to move over to England for 2 years with his galfriend before settling back in Singapore. Everyone will miss him here, and I hope that he will be able to achieve his goals and dreams there.

One day, I will be able to hear that song again.

Sounds like an awesome performer.

I have met very few people that could sing Rainbow connection.

I can do "It's not easy being green" in my kermit voice but there is not much call for it these days.
